Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans made some interesting remarks about Jon Jones during the build-up to their meeting earlier this year.
Jones, who retained the title with a decision victory over Evans, will face Vitor Belfort later this month at UFC 152. Belfort is currently training with Evans in Florida.
As for the severed Jones-Evans relationship, “Suga” believes that could be put back together if the opportunity came.
“If he ever needed me for anything, I’ll be there to talk to him and to help him out,” said Evans, in an interview with MMAFighting.com recently. “I don’t know everything there is to know about life, either, so if there’s something I have a problem with, I’m sure I can learn from him, too.”
The two were once close friends and training partners under Greg Jackson’s watchful eye in New Mexico. After Jones won the title from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Evans departed from the gym.
He can actually be a good person, but I think him slipping back and forth between the person he thinks people want him to be and who he truly is has really messed him up.
Evans does not have a scheduled fight on the calendar, but has mentioned hopes of competing before the end of the year.
