Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson have put in the work. Now, the two will compete for the first-ever UFC flyweight title at UFC 152 Saturday night.
Both have competed for gold before, but were stopped short by Dominick Cruz in both the WEC and UFC.
Benavidez defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani to reach the finals, while Johnson downed Ian McCall.
“Joseph and I are going to show you that the flyweight division is here to stay,” Johnson said. “Fighting someone like Joseph is an honor, and I am proud. It’s going to be a good fight.”
Benavidez echoed those thoughts, saying, “I have worked so hard for it. just the fact that this is coming true right now, I’m soaking it all in. I can’t wait to give you a fight that you won’t forget. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to fight at my true weight. I just can’t wait to bring an amazing night of fighting to everyone.”
