If anything comes up and the potential super-fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre isn’t signed, there is another member of Team Blackhouse that would be willing to test his skills vs. GSP.
That fighter is former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
Machida made news recently for turning down a bout with Jon Jones for the title. Instead, Jones faced Vitor Belfort. “The Dragon” secured his title shot with a win over Ryan Bader, but cited not enough time to prepare to face Jones.
“It would be an interesting karate duel, but I don’t know at what weight we would do it,” said Machida, in an interview with Globo Esporte. “If it is 185 pounds, I will go for it.”
In the same interview, Machida mentioned returning to training in a few days, explaining that he had to remain off his feet due to a knee injury. It’s possible that the knee injury was at least part of the reason for saying no to fighting Jones this month.
