Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans was asked to step in and face Glover Teixeira next month in Brazil.
Evans, who has not competed since a loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones earlier this year, declined the bout. “Suga” explained his reasoning while appearing on Fuel TV this weekend.
They offered me a fight, but it was against Glover Teixeira and I only had three weeks to fight and I haven’t been training. I was like, ‘No way, not with that notice in Brazil.’ I’m thinking maybe January or February. I will fight anybody. I want to get a fight at light heavyweight.
UFC president Dana White mentioned last week that Evans could be placed on the year-end card in December, but it appears that Evans prefers to return in 2013.
