Light Heavyweight Not In Anderson Silva’s Plans After UFC 153 Bout

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva likes the ring of that.

So, despite moving up to face Stephan Bonnar at light heavyweight, Silva will not remain a 205-pound fighter going forward.

Silva will face Bonnar in the main event of UFC 153, the third time “The Spider” has fought at 205.

“There’s always been a lot of talk about me moving up to 205,” said Silva, during a conference call Thursday. “I know Dana (White) has talked about it, and all the fans have talked about me facing Jon Jones, but it’s something I’ve never wanted.”

Instead, Silva enjoys being the man on top of the middleweight division.

“My weight class is 185 and I’m 37 years old,” Silva added. “I feel I need to be honest and continue to build what I’ve built, and that is keep defending my belt.”

  • i like sexy time

Hes best off staying at 185 and occasionally have a hand picked fight against some crap guy like bonnar at 205 just to say hes been there. After that have another easy fight against GSP. Why could they not put him up against Thiago silva or Gustafsson what pure crap

Well for one Gustafsson is a rising star in 205.. Why allow Silva to derail his momentum when silva is going to move back down to 185 anyways… And as for GSP… If its what the fans want then why not? To me Bonnar makes no sense paper wise but for Silva to step up and save the card I can see why he did it. Bonnar is no walkover tho…

fighting bonnar is the stupidest move ever, all these epic fights and then you go fight bonnar at 37yrs old…ya way to make use of your “golden years”.

He wouldnt mind beating up a 170lb GSP though….
