Clay Guida Would Love To Face Frankie Edgar In Featherweight Debut

Clay Guida decided to follow Frankie Edgar and move down to the UFC’s featherweight division.

So, “The Carpenter” feels as though a meeting with Edgar would make a perfect debut for both fighters in the division.

“That would be a great match up,” said Guida, in an interview with Yahoo! Sports. “I’ve got a great deal of respect for Frankie and this fight has been a long time coming. (We are) both down here at 145 now, and I’m going to make my mark in the division right out of the gate.”

Guida (29-13) was viewed as a potential contender at lightweight before losses to Benson Henderson and Gray Maynard. Edgar (14-3-1) was set to challenge UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo before Aldo exited the planned fight with an injury.

Guida feels he has improved in making the decision to change weight classes, adding, “I fixed a lot of things and believe that I’ll only continue to improve with the coaches and training partners that I have.”

I dont mind the matchup since both are debuting at 145 however Guida wasnt able to get a fight against Frankie at 55 so why reward him now ? he lost to Maynard whom Edgar beat so I feel like Guida is jumping the line and trying to capatilize off of Franks title talk and # 1 contendership status. Though we all know Frankie is not the # 1 contender right now since he has yet to fight at 45 but with him being the former champ at 55 he is more deserving of a title shot than Guida and if Clay humps his way past Edgar via another boring decision fight, well we lose in many ways like Guida taking a fight off the table we all want to see in Edgar vs Aldo. But I have confidence in my man Frankie beating up any Feather so bring it if you really want it Joe Silva. I dont think it will happen cuz I’d much rather see both guys fighting Featherweights that have been there and see how both guys can fare at the new weightclass.

Also if this matchup is made does it really help Edgar in the aspect of proving himself as one of the top dogs at 145 ? think about it- some feel like he needs to defeat a top 45er and by doing so he proves he is as good here than he was at 55. So if he beats Guida he is only proving he defeated another Lightweight making that jump down & I’d rather both guys get a win and be in the mix so to say rather than make them fight each other and lose out on both guys being able to be title challengers to Aldo’s belt. If Frankie beats a top 5 45er than theres no denying he is deserving of the title shot rather than him beating a fellow newcomer who hasnt fought at 45 before. ya know what i mean ?
