Clay Guida decided to follow Frankie Edgar and move down to the UFC’s featherweight division.
So, “The Carpenter” feels as though a meeting with Edgar would make a perfect debut for both fighters in the division.
“That would be a great match up,” said Guida, in an interview with Yahoo! Sports. “I’ve got a great deal of respect for Frankie and this fight has been a long time coming. (We are) both down here at 145 now, and I’m going to make my mark in the division right out of the gate.”
Guida (29-13) was viewed as a potential contender at lightweight before losses to Benson Henderson and Gray Maynard. Edgar (14-3-1) was set to challenge UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo before Aldo exited the planned fight with an injury.
Guida feels he has improved in making the decision to change weight classes, adding, “I fixed a lot of things and believe that I’ll only continue to improve with the coaches and training partners that I have.”
