Jon Fitch No Gatekeeper, Wants To End Erick Silva’s Hype At UFC 153

Jon Fitch doesn’t plan on leaving the UFC’s welterweight division anytime soon.

Fitch will look for his first win since 2010 when he takes on Erick Silva Saturday night at UFC 153.

Since winning five in a row, Fitch (23-4-1) has fought BJ Penn to a draw and been on the wrong end of a stunning knockout loss to Johny Hendricks.

“He’s got some hype on him, but I will shut him down like I shut everyone down,” Fitch said. “He’s fast and explosive, and I know I can’t have a slow first round against someone like him.”

Fitch has earned wins over the likes of Thiago Alves, Paulo Thiago and Diego Sanchez during his career. He might feel passed over by the new wave of welterweight contenders, but a win over Silva can boost his stock right back near the top.

“I know he has a bright future, but it is not his time yet,” Fitch said. “I will beat him up like I did all the rest.”
