UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has decided to give up riding motorcycles for the time being.
Aldo, who was scheduled to fight this weekend at UFC 153, was injured in an accident involving his bike and a car in Brazil. The injuries, while minor in nature, were enough to keep him from training, forcing “Scarface” out of a planned main event with Frankie Edgar.
“No more motorbikes for me,” said Aldo, in an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “I’m young, so obviously I do mess up once in a while. But I learned my lesson and I’m not going to ride anymore.”
Aldo’s (21-1) words seem to echo those of another UFC champion – Jon Jones – who was ripped by MMA fans and media members for his decisions that ultimately led to the cancellation of a pay-per-view.
As for fighting again, Aldo said he must wait for a doctor to clear him, but said, “I’m ready, I’m recovered; the sooner the better.”
