Jon Jones Has Mixed Emotions About Facing Chael Sonnen

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones realizes that Chael Sonnen has done exactly what Chael Sonnen does: talk.

Jones, who recently defeated Vitor Belfort for his fourth successful title defense, asked fans on Twitter who they would like to see him face next. And by the response “Bones” himself provided, it would appear Sonnen is the frontrunner.

Sonnen is slated to make his UFC 205-pound debut in December vs. former champion Forrest Griffin. The ex-middleweight contender agreed to step in and face Jones on short notice in September, but Jones turned down the fight. That only provoked more talk from Sonnen.

Who does this guy think he is? Seriously? Its not Jon Jones’ job to decide who “deserves” a title shot. And it’s not his job to protect the reputation of a belt. It’s his job to fight and defend it. The only person “delegitimizing” the importance of the championship is Jon Jones himself. He “delegitimized” it when he refused to fight a challenger. The same “deligitimization” takes place in boxing when guys win belts and refuse to defend them against top-tier opponents for years. And you see how seriously people take boxing.
So shut up, Jon Jones. It’s Zuffa’s job to pick challengers, and it’s your job to fight the challenger. It’s irrelevant whether you feel the challenger “deserves” it or not. Get over yourself. Chael Sonnen was right, you are acting like an entitled little brat. If your heart was as big as your ego, you would have stepped in and fought Sonnen. The sad part about it was that you probably would have won that fight anyway. I miss old days of MMA.
