Josh Barnett To Defend Pancrase Title Next Year

While awaiting his future in Strikeforce, Josh Barnett appears to have a bout locked up for 2013.

Barnett will defend his King of Pancrase open weight title, according to a report by Yahoo! Japan.

The last time Barnett competed for Strikeforce was earlier this year, as he was defeated by Daniel Cormier in the Grand Prix finals. Barnett won the Pancrase title in 2003, but has not defended the belt for 10 years.

The report states that Barnett will fight during the Pancrase 20th Anniversary Tour against an opponent to be selected by Pancrase CEO Masakazu Sakai. “The Warmaster” is expected to fight one more time for Strikeforce, but it has yet to be confirmed if he will return to the UFC after that bout.
