UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos seems surprised by the constant talk of a potential fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jones, who has successfully defended the UFC 205-pound title against four former champions, has hinted as a possible move to the heavyweight division in the future.
As far as dos Santos is concerned, however, unless “Bones” comes after his crown, the two will remain friends inside – and outside – the Octagon.
“People like to imagine a lot of things,” said dos Santos, during a recent interview on UFC Tonight. “I think Jon Jones is an amazing fighter. He is really good. He is so confident. I like him, he is nice with me and I am nice with him. But I don’t care about the other titles. I’ve got the heavyweight belt. There is only one guy at the top of the division and I think it is me.”
Dos Santos, though, was quickly to point out that if the time came for the two to lock horns, “I will think about it. If the UFC puts him up against me, then we will fight.”
For now, “Cigano” has his focus set on Cain Velasquez and UFC 155 in December. As for Jones, he is locked in an assignment as coach on The Ultimate Fighter, with a match up vs. Chael Sonnen awaiting him.
