Sean Sherk Not Retired, Just Not Sure When He’ll Fight Again

Sean Sherk has reached the pinnacle of MMA, wearing the UFC lightweight title back in 2006.

Since 2008, however, Sherk has fought just four times total – going 2-2 – due to a rash of injuries. In fact, his last bout came two years ago when he defeated Evan Dunham.

So, is the ex-champion retired? Not entirely, as Sherk told MMAWeekly Radio recently.

I’ve just been injured. I’ve got some injuries that need surgery, and I really don’t want to have surgery. I don’t like it. I don’t like the down time. I’m trying to get myself healthy without having any kind of surgery.

Sherk (36-4-1) lost the UFC title when he was stripped of the belt for a failed post-fight drug test following a win over Hermes Franca. He reported that two fights remain on his contract, and he plans to remain a UFC fighter for the duration of his career.

“I wouldn’t fight anywhere else anyways.”
