So far, Strikeforce is holding true to its word.
According to a report by Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, Nate Marquardt will defend his Strikeforce welterweight title on January 12 against Tarec Saffiedine.
The title fight would join a rumored Luke Rockhold-Lorenz Larkin contest for Rockhold’s Strikeforce middleweight crown.
Marquardt (32-10-2) has posted a 6-2 record over his last eight fights, including a knockout victory vs. Tyron Woodley to secure the vacant title.
Saffiedine (13-3) is riding a three-fight win streak. In his last bout, he downed Roger Bowling via decision.
Strikeforce scrapped two cards in 2012, claiming to be focusing all of its efforts on a stacked event in 2013. The card has yet to be confirmed by officials.
