MMAWeekly.com has confirmed that Matt Mitrione will replace Shane Carwin and meet Roy Nelson in December.
Mitrione and Nelson, once Ultimate Fighter teammates, will comprise the main event for The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. The card takes place December 15 from Las Vegas.
Carwin was forced out of the match after suffering an extensive knee injury in training. He was hoping to return for the first time since 2011.
Mitrione (5-1) will be trying to rebound from his first pro loss, as he was handed a decision defeat by Cheick Kongo earlier this year.
Mitrione and Nelson were teammates on the 10th season of TUF, as both were selected by Rashad Evans. Nelson (17-7) went on to win the event.
