Cris Cyborg ‘Happy’ Women Are Headed To The UFC

While Cris Cyborg may not compete in the UFC in the immediate future, she is still pleased to see her fellow fighters receive a chance at the big-time.

UFC president Dana White confirmed recently that Ronda Rousey has signed with the promotion, and the UFC will create at 135-pound female division.

Cyborg, however, has been told she cannot drop to that weight without possibly suffering effects to her body down the road. Still, she is excited by the movement.

“Women who train MMA are happy,” said Cyborg, in a recent interview with Tatame. “I knew this would happen sooner or later. I was happy; it’ll be good for women.”

Cyborg is currently serving out a suspension for a failed post-fight drug test. She is 10-1 with one no-contest in her career.

“I hope Dana has women fight not just once a year so there is continuity at work,” Cyborg said. “The fighters will want to show more service training and the number of women will increase because they will see that there is a future.”
