Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will remain on the sidelines for the extended future, according to a report by The MMA Corner.
Rockhold, who was scheduled to defend his title against Lorenz Larkin at January’s Strikeforce: Champions card, has not fully recovered from the same wrist injury that cancelled a previous bout with Rockhold.
Nothing has been confirmed by Strikeforce, Rockhold or Larkin, but if the report is true, the champion will now fellow Strikeforce titleholder Gilbert Melendez on the sidelines. Previous reports have stated that Melendez will not make his planned fight with Pat Healy for the same card.
Rockhold (10-1) has defended the belt twice, topping Keith Jardine and Tim Kennedy. He will likely move to the UFC if the news of Strikeforce’s planned closure holds up.
