Super Bowl weekend is going to make for another intriguing UFC card, as heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Antonio Silva have been confirmed for action.
UFC 156 takes place February 2 from Las Vegas, with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo defending his title against Frankie Edgar in the main event.
UFC officials have confirmed – pending his license heading in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission – Overeem vs. Silva in what could be viewed as a No. 1 contender match.
Also, light heavyweights Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira collide, along with welterweights Jon Fitch and Demian Maia.
“Our fights on Super Bowl weekend are always some of the biggest and best, and this year will be no different,” UFC president Dana White said.
Overeem, a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, was suspended earlier this year after a failed pre-fight drug test.
