Anderson Silva’s Conditioning Coach Calls Talk Of 170-Pound Fight With GSP “Criminal”

Rogerio Camoes, the conditioning coach for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, made it known that he does not feel as though “The Spider” should even think about the notion of dropping to 170 pounds.

Georges St-Pierre, the reigning UFC welterweight champion, has talked in recent interviews that he would only face Silva on his terms. While not going into great detail, that likely means GSP wants to get Silva as close to his normal fighting weight of 170 as possible.

“It would be a crime for Anderson to try and fight at 77kg,” Camoes said, during a recent interview with Fighter’s Only. “He could maybe make the weight but the physical loss that he would suffer would be too much. We have to respect St-Pierre, who besides being a great fighter is a monster physically. The Canadian would get a considerable conditioning advantage if they fought at welterweight division limits.”

Camoes went on, saying, “For me, this fight should happen at 80kg, since that would already be a sacrifice for Anderson. It would be his first shot at this weight and we would have to implement a very specific work for him to be able to perform at 100-percent of his capacity.”

For now, UFC president Dana White has tabled all talk of GSP-Silva, saying St-Pierre remains on vacation and that he has not had a chance to sit down and discuss the super-fight with either man in detail.
