Wrestlers are a different breed of athlete.
One minute they can be exchanging takedowns on the mat, while the next, they can be discussing past opponents as long-lost friends.
Randy Couture, one of the greatest wrestlers-turned-MMA fighters believes that teammates Chael Sonnen and Dan Henderson would have no issues stepping inside the Octagon to test their skills against one another.
“Yeah, I think they’d fight,” said Couture, during a recent interview with CageJunkies. “They’ve wrestled each other for spots on the Olympic team. They’re wrestlers at the end of the day, and now they’re fighters. They’re professionals; this is what we do.”
Couture, who has worked and trained with both, believes the friendship would survive such a battle, adding, “they’d go out there and compete. It would be an interesting competition.”
For now, Sonnen must figure out the puzzle that is UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, while Henderson will likely face Lyoto Machida next. Wins by both, though, could lead to a future match.
