Junior Dos Santos Goes Off On Alistair Overeem, Calls Him A Cheater

UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has no respect for Alistair Overeem.

The two were expected to collide earlier this year, but Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test and dos Santos went on to defeat Frank Mir instead. Now, as he puts the finishing touches on his camp for a meeting with Cain Velasquez later this month, “Cigano” remains stead-fast in his feelings for Overeem.

“Overeem is a pretty good fighter, but he’s starting to talk a lot of shit now, said dos Santos, in an interview with Sherdog Radio. “It’s not good for the sport. Nobody wants to see a champion like this, saying the stupid things that he’s saying. His results in (past) fights, we can’t take that very serious because he failed in the drug test. For sure, before he failed his test, he was using something illegal, too.”

At one time, dos Santos appeared to be pushing hard for the UFC to find a way for Overeem to compete to close out 2012, but he eventually found solace in facing Velasquez again. JDS won the belt from Velasquez in 2011 via first round finish.

Overeem is set to face Antonio Silva in early 2013, with a win positioning him for a shot at the title. Overeem, a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, defeated Brock Lesnar late in 2011 to secure his original title shot.
