BJ Penn Likely Headed For Retirement After Loss To Rory MacDonald

We likely have seen the last of former UFC champion BJ Penn inside the Octagon – at least if UFC president Dana White has his say.

Penn, who returned from a year-long retirement to face Rory MacDonald Saturday night at UFC on Fox 5, was soundly defeated by the rising star.

The loss marked a second straight for Penn (16-9-2), who has not won since a 2010 victory over fellow former champion Matt Hughes.

“BJ will probably retire,” said White, during the post-fight show on Fuel TV. “I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Rory looked better than he’s ever looked. You don’t see body punches like that. BJ is a warrior who doesn’t give up. I’ve got so much respect for him. I’d like to see him retire.”

Penn was looking to make a statement against a member of the famed Tristar Gym, the same training site of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. “The Prodigy” has yet to speak publicly following the loss, as he was sent directly to the hospital after the fight.
