Jon Jones Desires Fight With Alexander Gustafsson, Feels He Has Something To Prove

Not many fighters in the 205-pound division are taller than UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

There is, however, one guy out there – and he just happens to be coming off a victory over former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Alexander Gustafsson, a 6-foot-5 fighter from Sweden, improved to 14-1 with a recent victory over Rua. It is believed that “The Mauler” could be the next contender to the title, and Jones would like nothing more than that to happen.

“There are a lot of critics that say I do so well because I have size advantages over my opponents, and I don’t think that’s fair,” said Jones, during a recent interview with MMA Heat prior to the Gustafsson-Rua bout. “I would prefer to fight Alexander just because I haven’t fought him yet.”

Jones won the belt from Rua, and has successfully defended it against Rashad Evans, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort. He is scheduled to face Chael Sonnen in April.

Despite being an inch shorter than Gustafsson, “Bones” would still have a near eight-in reach advantage.
