Dustin Poirier Made Difficult Decision To Leave Home Following Latest Loss

Everything Dustin Poirier’s ever known has revolved around Louisiana.

However, following a loss to Chan Sung Jung, Poirier decided he needed a change of address and moved to Florida for his training.

The “new” Poirier will show off his skills this Saturday night at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale against Jonathan Brookins.

“It’s a huge sacrifice,” said Poirier, during an interview with “Everything I love and everything I have was in Louisiana, where I’m from and grew up. My family is there – just the security of being comfortable, knowing everybody, and stuff like that – but these chances don’t come over and over again. I’m in the UFC, and I want to be a world champion, so I decided to do what I had to do and make sacrifices.”

Poirier (12-2) was viewed as a potential challenger to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo before the loss to Jung. He had won five straight, including a pair of submission victories.

As for his opponent, Poirier said, “He’s a grinder, he slows the pace down in his fights and wears guys down. He’s a big ’45er, so I have to use my wrestling and my boxing to keep a good distance.”
