Ex-UFC Fighter Charlie Brenneman Returning To MMA As A Lightweight

Charlie Brenneman, who went 4-4 during his time with the UFC, will return to action as a lightweight.

Brenneman made the announcement on his own personal website and Twitter recently, stating that he would compete for the Valley Fight League in January. His opponent will be Eric Irvin, who is 5-2 in his career.

Brenneman (15-5) appeared on the cusp of moving into that next level after a win over Rick Story, went 1-3 in his last four UFC fights. He was released following a first round TKO defeat at the hands of Kyle Noke.

“The Spaniard” made a trial run at 155 pounds earlier this week, and posted on Twitter that he successfully cut to 155.8 pounds. He added, “when I made the decision to drop down to lightweight, I wanted to do it as safely and efficiently as possible. I’m not an expert in nutrition, but I am an expert on my body.”

Brenneman continued, posting, “I am ready to go. Start a fresh career at a new weight. At the end of the day, I’m the one looking in the mirror, and I like the skinny, bushy-haired fella that I see.”
