UFC president Dana White wouldn’t tell his fighters to use something he doesn’t.
White, one of the most active people on Twitter in terms of company figureheads, recently discussed the use of social media with Mashable.com.
It appears White will even be the keynote speaker in January at a convention called BusinessNextSocial to promote social media use with other industry leaders.
“It’s literally how we operate,” White said. “Today we have 475 athletes under contract and every one is active on Twitter.”
White and the UFC even started giving quarterly bonuses to fighters for being on Twitter. UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who has collected a bonus or two in his time, has 2.8 million followers – most in the UFC. White is right behind at 2.3 million.
“It’s so powerful and information moves so fast for so many people,” White added. “It’s an exciting time for someone in a business like this because you can interact with so many people directly.”
