Dan Severn, UFC Hall Of Famer, Announces His Retirement From MMA

Dan Severn, who has racked up 101 career MMA victories, is retiring from the sport. Severn made the announcement via his own personal website on Tuesday.

The No. 1 goal that I set for myself in 2012 was to be finished with my mixed martial arts competition career. I was attempting to do my own self-directed retirement tour in the last couple of years reaching out to only three people – Mark Coleman, Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie. … It seems as though these matches will not take place for whatever reasons, and my life now goes on to the next chapter.

Severn (101-19-7) last fought in April, earning a victory in Iowa to snap a two-fight losing skid. “The Beast” also stated that he plans to retire from professional wrestling by the end of 2013.

During his UFC career, Severn went 9-4 and won the UFC 5 tournament, the UFC Ultimate Ultimate 95 tourney and the super-fight title. He was an three-time Olympic wrestling alternate and a collegiate standout at Arizona State University.
