Michael Bisping has his own personal reasons for wanting Anderson Silva to remain in the UFC’s middleweight division.
If Bisping is able to get past Vitor Belfort later this month at UFC on FX 7, “The Count” will earn himself a title shot against Silva.
“2013 is the biggest year of my career,” wrote Bisping, who is doing a blog on Yahoo! Sports. “Anderson Silva has confirmed he’s going to be defending the UFC middleweight title he’s held since 2006 this year, and while I know some fans will have their own views, I’m very happy the world’s best fighter will be fighting at 185 rather than in catch-weight super-fights for the time being.”
Bisping confirmed that UFC president Dana White has told him a title shot is on the line, something he has been on the cusp of obtaining before.
“That’s the limit of how much I have thought about Anderson Silva,” Bisping said. “All this talk will be for nothing if I get caught by Vitor Belfort in Brazil on January 19.”
Bisping has posted a 5-1 mark in his last six fights, falling only to Chael Sonnen in a bout very closely scored.
