For Dan Henderson, stepping inside the Octagon against a teammate is something he would be willing to do.
Henderson, however, would only do so if a UFC title was on the line.
That could come to fruition if Chael Sonnen defeats Jon Jones later this year in a bout for the UFC light heavyweight title. Henderson is currently set to meet Lyoto Machida at UFC 157.
“We’re friends, but above all, we have the same goal,” said Henderson, in a recent interview with Tatame. “Our friendship is more than a title and we are professional enough to let the rivalry be just inside the Octagon. It would be a different situation.”
Henderson (29-8) was scheduled to meet Jones last year, but a knee injury forced him out. Sonnen (27-12-2) offered to step in having not competed at 205 pounds for several years. Jones (17-1), however, turned down the fight and the two started a strong war of words.
Jones and Sonnen recently completed filming for The Ultimate Fighter as coaches. The show airs beginning this month.
