Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza appears on his way to the UFC after Saturday night, regardless if he beats Ed Herman or not at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine.
The two will compete at a catch-weight from Oklahoma City on Showtime, and Souza’s coach, Josuel Distak, confirmed with Sherdog.com that his fighter has inked a five-five deal with the UFC.
“‘Jacare is now a UFC fighter and signed a five-fight contract,” Distak said. “The result of the fight against Herman will be the basis for choice of his debut opponent in the UFC, which I think will be in April.”
Souza, a multi-time champion at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships and CBJJ Pan American Championships, has won two straight since dropping the title to Luke Rockhold. He holds an overall record of 16-3, including wins a 6-1 mark in his last seven.
