Rousimar Palhares Denies Using Illegal Substance, Accepts Suspension

Rousimar Palhares responded to his recent suspension by claiming he did not knowingly take anything illegal. Palhares was suspended for nine months after he had elevated levels of testosterone-to-epitestosterone in his system following a loss to Hector Lombard.

“I’ve always been extremely regimented with my diet and would not use anything that could harm my body or my performance inside the Octagon,” said Palhares, in a statement released to “And it wasn’t different this time. I never had the intention to cheat. I have a clear conscience, but accepted the punishment.”

The failed test was the first of Palhares’ career. Fellow UFC on FX: Sotiropoulos vs. Pearson fighter Joey Beltran was also suspended for a failed drug test.

The UFC oversaw the drug testing as the event took place in Australia and there is no governing athletic commission in the country.
