Bellator Will Put Home-Grown Champions On Display This Evening At Bellator 85

Bjorn Rebney wants all fans – and MMA fighters, as well – to pay special attention to the two world title matches planned for Bellator 85 this evening.

The promotion debuts on Spike TV, and the combatants that are either wearing Bellator gold, or competing for it, have worked their way quickly through the pecking order to be marquee draws.

Michael Chandler will put his Bellator lightweight title on the line against Rick Hawn, while Pat Curran defends his featherweight crown against Patricio Freire.

Rebney, who said he is “hugely excited to see both of those fights,” during a recent interview with MMAFrenzy.com, commented specifically on Chandler and Curran during the visit.

Those two are hugely representative of what can happen to a guy in very short order in this organization. We’re not about a three-year build-up with people. It can happen much, much quicker and guys can reach a very high level in short order.

Bellator uses tournaments to crown contenders to titles, taking the politics out of it. Win, and you will compete for a title. Lose, and you must wait for the next season to begin.
