UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is taking advantage of any and all information Gray Maynard has on Frankie Edgar ahead of his title defense in Februaty at UFC 156.
Aldo and Maynard have been working together, something that started last year when “The Bully” went to Brazil to train.
“Maynard is a great guy,” said Aldo, in a recent interview with Bleacher Report. “It was an honor to train by his side. I also train with the Brazilian wrestling team doing a specific job for a long time. I will do my best to surprise everybody. I am training very hard. Anything can happen in a fight, and I can’t underestimate my opponent.”
Maynard, of course, has faced Edgar three times, going 1-1-1 against the former UFC lightweight champion. Maynard is currently recovering from a training injury that knocked him out of his last fight.
For Aldo, this marks his return to the Octagon for the first time since early 2012, as “Scarface” was forced out of two planned bouts last year. Fully recovered, Aldo will be seeking his 22nd career victory in 23 fights.
