Bjorn Rebney: Bellator Champions Will Fight More Often

One area that Bellator has caught flack in over the years is a lack of title defenses.

Well, according to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, that will change in 2013. The promotion debuted on Spike TV Thursday night with two world title matches, and Rebney says fans can get used to seeing those belts on the line.

“Our champions will be defending very regularly, on a consistent basis, because we have all the tournaments we need now,” said Rebney, in an interview with MMAFrenzy.com. “There are a lot of incredible world title fights that we’ll get to see.”

Bellator has contenders lined up in most divisions, and is planning on running five tournaments simultaneously on Spike TV throughout the beginning of the year.

Rebney also confirmed that “super-fights and fights outside the organization are a thing of the past,” meaning no more waiting for champions to heal up that were defeated outside Bellator.
