Vitor Belfort: Move Over Chael Sonnen, I Want Jon Jones Next; Sonnen Responds

Vitor Belfort brought excitement to his country Saturday night, dropping Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC on FX 7.

Belfort, who knocked Bisping from a future UFC middleweight title shot, did not let the moment pass him by in making a plea to the UFC bosses for a rematch with Jon Jones. Belfort was defeated by Jones in 2012 via submission in the fourth round, but had the champion in trouble early on with an armbar attempt.

“Let me fight Jon Jones,” Belfort screamed. “Get the punk Chael Sonnen out. Go home. Let me fight and see who the real champion is.”

Jones and Sonnen are set to face each other in April for the belt. The two are also the coaches on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Sonnen, who was working on Fuel TV for the pre- and post-fight shows, responded by saying, “One thing I want to make really clear: You’ve been telling the world you want to meet Jesus. I will gladly arrange that travel.” He added that he would accept the challenge of meeting Belfort as soon as he was done with Jones.

Jones also responded to Belfort’s remarks, posting, “Lol” on his Twitter account along with a picture of himself laughing.

I just don’t see that happening…. He won a middleweight fight vs Bisping and I guess since he earned his title shot vs Jones the first time he thought maybe that’s the way it gets earned and since Chael earned his after losing a mw fight, it kinda makes sense. I think Vitor beat Sexyama before the Jones fight ? right and he beat Rumble at a catchweight tha was pretty much a middle/light heavy match? He should just stay at Middleweight since that division is mixed up right now with less title challengers than 205 is with Gustaffson-Mousassi, Hendo, Teixeira-Rampage, Lyoto Machida, Rashad-Lil Nog, Daniel Cormier maybe soon, Shogun still out there and others who could have a big year and make their way into the top 5. Middleweight has just as many names to be considerations for top contenders but with injuries and last minute losses theyre just isn’t that top guy who is heads and shoulders above everybody else. Vitor could use his latest win to be higher in the totem pole at 185 than he could be at 205 since Jones is already booked versus a unworthy challenger, who we will still tune into simply see it happen as we picture it will. But afterwards they’re should be atleast three top 5 new challengers for Bones to pick a fight with and Vitor most likely wont be one of them. Glover Teixeira, Al Gustaffson, Dan Henderson, or Machida, Gegard Mousassi, Rampage if they beat the guys mentioned before. Vitor needs to beat one of the guys mentioned or maybe a win over Shogun or the winner of Rashad Evans vs Lil Nogueira ?

Vitor looked like an improved fighter against Bisping,
but he’s still the same ole goofball in the head.

Jones will still beat Belfort if they ever had a rematch bottom line.
