Chris Weidman: ‘I Am A Bad Matchup’ For Anderson Silva

Chris Weidman isn’t lacking in the confidence department.

Despite still being very green in terms of his MMA career, the 9-0 Weidman believes he is the one to end Anderson Silva’s run atop the UFC’s middleweight division.

“I’m not going to start saying Anderson Silva is a chicken and scared of me. I do think I am a bad matchup for him. I think I really have him beat in a lot of areas. I don’t think he’s faced anybody like me,” said Weidman, while appearing on The MMA Hour recently. “I also can understand from his view point why he doesn’t want to fight me for a couple reasons.”

Silva was taken down several times against Chael Sonnen in their two matches, and “The All-American” has recorded 72-percent of his takedown attempts.

Weidman suffered an injury in late 2012, knocking him out of a bout with Tim Boetsch. He also dealt with the effects of Hurricane Sandy, which nearly wiped his home away.

With the recent additions from Strikeforce, including champion Luke Rockhold, Weidman still believes his resume holds up against anybody else at 185 pounds.

“Right now, I think I’m the most deserving to get it,” Weidman said. “I just don’t know if Anderson Silva will be interested.”
