UFC president Dana White confirmed on UFC Tonight recently that the promotion has several options on the table for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Chris Weidman, who has been hounding Silva since defeating Mark Munoz last year, is one of those options. Silva’s management team has been quick to discount Weidman as a legit contender, but White seems to disagree.
“That fight’s closer and more possible than people think,” said White, during an interview on UFC Tonight Tuesday. “We’re looking at a couple of different options – some options we like – and Weidman is one of them.”
White added that he thought Weidman would be sidelined for more of 2013 than he thought following surgery, but that “The All-American” is “healed up pretty well and he’ll be ready to start training in a couple of months.”
Weidman has targeted the annual July 4 card for a match up with Silva.
