Antonio Silva Looking To Join Ranks Of Elite By Besting Alistair Overeem At UFC 156

Antonio Silva has a chance to make a name for himself – again – in the world of MMA tonight when he faces Alistair Overeem at UFC 156.

Back in 2011, Silva stepped into the Strikeforce cage and finished Fedor Emelianenko. The win helped spark a giant push for “Bigfoot,” but all that came crashing down when he was defeated by Daniel Cormier.

A loss to Cain Velasquez in his UFC debut left Silva (17-4) searching for answers. He defeated Travis Browne to close out 2012, and now has the chance to finally face Overeem inside the Octagon.

“For me, everything is at stake in this fight,” Silva said. “This fight will put me among the UFC’s elite. For me, it’s very important to be among the best and fight in the UFC.”

Silva had a three-fight win streak prior to the Cormier loss, and was 9-1 in 10 fights between 2007-11.

“I believe in my jiu-jitsu and I don’t fear him at all,” Silva said of Overeem. “I respect him, but I don’t fear him. UFC fans have not seen my best yet. I’m improving every day. Not only can I defeat Overeem, I will beat Overeem.”
