UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was placed in an interesting position this weekend, as he joined the FUEL TV team to help analyze UFC on FUEL TV: Barao vs. McDonald.
In the main event, Renan Barao defended his interim UFC bantamweight title against Michael McDonald, and placed himself in position to face Cruz later this year – if Cruz can return from a second knee injury.
After seeing what Barao had to offer vs. McDonald, “The Dominator” was asked how he would game plan to meet the Brazilian.
“I fight differently than anyone else. I’m not going to stand in front of you. I’m not just going to counter you and I mix things up. You take away range with angles. I can wrestle. I’m not going to just stand in front of him and strike the whole time. Feints ruin the entire game of Barao, in my opinion. You take away the range by taking away the jab. He’s going to be confused when he gets in there looking for me.”
Cruz, who has not fought since late in 2011 when he defeated current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson via decision, said that “nothing really concerns me (about Barao).”
