Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was expected to cruise through the season eight Bellator tournament and earn a title shot.
Those hopes and dreams were crushed Thursday night at Bellator 90, as Emanuel Newton knocked Lawal out in the first round.
Newton advances to the finals of the tournament, while Lawal must wait for another chance to earn his new “crown.”
On Twitter after the loss, Lawal posted the following:
I got caught. Great job Emanuel. Anyone can be defeated. Back to the drawing board. Thanx 4 the support!!

Lawal is also working with TNA wrestling in addition to his MMA career. It remains to be seen where this places him in the pecking order of Bellator.
