Ronda Rousey Says Nothing Compares To Preparing For Olympics

UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will step inside the Octagon for the first time tonight when she faces Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC 157.

Competing in the main event is nothing new to Rousey, but this will be historic, as it marks the first time females have fought for the UFC.

The pressure, though, is nothing compared to what “Rowdy” has dealt with previously in her career. Rousey is a former Olympian who captured a medal in judo.

“I’d say the Olympics are much harder than a UFC title fight,” said Rousey, during a recent appearance on UFC Tonight. “If you lose a title fight, you can come back a few months later. It’s not like if you are training your whole life and in one second you could lose by not paying attention and never have that chance again. That’s real pressure. This is a really huge deal, but it’s not as irreparable as losing the Olympics.”

Rousey’s bronze medal performance in the 2008 Summer Olympics made her the first American to win a medal in women’s judo.

Since entering MMA, she has won all six of her pro bouts via first round armbar, and has yet to be pushed out of the first round.

I feel like many in mixed martial arts will look down on these comments from Rousey, but unless you have pushed yourself for one brief moment for a period of four-plus years, can you disagree with her? The Olympics are a crown jewel of several long months and years of determination and hard work, while most MMA fighters compete two-or-three times over the course of 365 days.

Ugh, this chick comes off as so full of herself. She’s fought 6 fucking times and she thinks that’s all there is.
