UFC 157: Initial Reports Have PPV Going Over 400,000 Buys

The early numbers are in for UFC 157, and they are very good.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the first female fight in UFC history generated over 400,000 pay-per-view buys.

Ronda Rousey, the UFC bantamweight champion, successfully defended her title against Liz Carmouche in the main event. The card took place from the Honda Center in Anaheim.

The UFC typically does not release numbers from PPV buys, but UFC president Dana White promised the event would surpass the previous mark for a female headliner on pay-per-view.

That took place back in 2001, when Laila Ali fought Jacqueline Frazier-Lyde. The two daughters of boxing legends Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, brought in over 100,000 PPV buys.

Meltzer also mentioned during his report that Rousey could be cast in the upcoming “Hunger Games” movie.
