Recently released lightweight Jacob Volkmann has signed with the World Series of Fighting.
WSOF executive vice president Al Abdel Aziz confirmed the signing with MMAFighting.com.
Volkmann was cut by the UFC during their recent wave of releases, despite going 6-4 since debuting with the promotion in 2009. He was defeated by Bobby Green in his most recent bout.
On Twitter this week, Volkmann posted that he reached out to Bellator MMA, but officials told him they were booked through the summer. He also made it known that it was UFC matchmaker Joe Silva who finalized his release, and not UFC president Dana White.
The WSOF returns in March with a second planned show from the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. Anthony Johnson will face Andrei Arlovski – two fellow former UFC vets – at heavyweight.
