Diego Sanchez, a former contender in the UFC’s lightweight division, returned to 155 pounds Saturday night and scored a razor-close decision over Takanori Gomi at UFC on FUEL TV 8.
Following the win, Sanchez – who missed weight and blamed a lack of distilled water in Japan for the issue – called for a match with Nate Diaz next.
“I want to be the first one to say I beat both of the Diaz brothers,” said Sanchez, during the post-fight show on FUEL TV. “I got the big brother (Nick), I want the little one next.”
Sanchez (24-5) defeated Nick back in 2005 via decision. Nate is currently set to face Josh Thomson next month, but the two could align after that, assuming it is in the UFC’s plans.
“The Dream” wasn’t able to execute his typical ground-and-pound style vs. Gomi, and you would have to think he might not fare any better against Diaz.
