Mark Hunt Likely To Become Next Contender To UFC Heavyweight Title With Win Over Junior Dos Santos

UFC president Dana White offered up some insight to what may happen in May, saying that a knockout win by Mark Hunt over Junior dos Santos would likely secure “The Super Samoan” a future UFC title shot.

“It’s crazy to say, but if he knocks Junior dos Santos out, how is this guy not next in line,” said White, following a press conference earlier this week.

Hunt (9-7) has won four straight, including a recent finish of Stefan Struve to move into the Top-10 of the UFC’s heavyweight rankings.

Dos Santos, a former UFC champion, was scheduled to meet Alistair Overeem at UFC 160, but an injury knocked Overeem out. Hunt offered to step in, then declined, then accepted the fight after talking with White.

If Hunt can find a way to defeat dos Santos, I’ll eat crow and admit he deserves a title fight.

Not just a win, but as Dana specifically said: “if he knocks Junior dos Santos out, how is this guy not next in line”

That’s a monumental task no matter how hard you hit! No one has ko’d or even tko’d JDS. It would be very interesting to see Hunt win by decision, would he then get the title shot?

Hunt will be very tired in the late rounds, but if he plays his cards right and wrestles a bit, Junior may be tired also, if Mark can push the pace in the 3rd, i think he can get the KO.
There were a few times, if not more, that Cain couldve beat on JDS’ face a little more on the ground, but its not Cain’s forte to strike while in wrestling mode, if Mark can do this right, he can Ground and pound JDS.
Having said that…JDS will have a lot to prove and a lot to say after what happened in his last fight, he will be chomping at the bit to throw hands and bang with Mark. Or its possible, Junior could take Mark down and rain(reign) down some hell fire!! We havent seen much of that from JDS, but he cant be a stand up fighter for his whole career and expect to have a belt……..so many factors…….

I expect Dos Santos to demolish Hunt….
