Anthony Johnson’s Heavyweight Debut Just A One-And-Done Situation

Anthony Johnson will make his heavyweight debut this weekend against former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski at World Series of Fighting 2.

After constant issues making welterweight, Johnson finally realized that 205 pounds would be a good home to fight at.

However, when WSOF officials offered him the main event and a spot against Arlovski, “Rumble” jumped at the opportunity. So, could he remain at heavyweight following this fight? Not a chance, according to the man himself.

“This is probably my one and only fight at heavyweight right now,” said Johnson, during a media conference call earlier this week. “(Light heavyweight) is still where I want to be. Hopefully this is a good show and (the fans) might want to see a rematch and I’ll fight at heavyweight again.”

Johnson (14-4) has reeled off four consecutive victories since being released by the UFC in 2012. He has finished three of those four opponents.

He stated plans to weigh around 235 for the fight, and added “everything is still there. The speed, the power. I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing anything except height.”
