Josh Burkman believes a future World Series of Fighting championship match is on the line when he faces Aaron Simpson this Saturday at WSOF 2.
Burkman (24-9) has picked up three straight victories since a decision loss to current UFC fighter Jordan Mein. He was looking to secure another shot inside the Octagon, but feels the WSOF is the place to be now – a sees a title fight in his future.
“I think that (the WSOF) needs to give Jon Fitch a fight and I think that the winner of that fight needs to fight the winner of this fight for the World Series of Fighting title,” said Burkman, during a recent appearance on Sherdog Radio. “I don’t think anybody should get cut from an organization and come off a loss and fight for a title.”
Fitch was released by the UFC recently, and is expected to make his debut later this year.
Burkman fought in the UFC last almost five years ago, falling to Pete Sells. He went 5-5 in 10 Octagon appearances.
Simpson, like Burkman and Fitch, is also a former UFC fighter. Talk of titles being on the line seems to center around later this year for the WSOF, and you would have to think that these three are right there in line.
