MMA Fighter Fakes Own Death, Promoter Sees His Mugshot On TV

Charles Rowan’s girlfriend made a frantic call to Caged Aggression promoters Christos Piliafas and Scott DiPonio in February stating that Rowan had been killed in a car crash on his way to the event.

The promoters, feeling heartbroken, quickly got money together to give to the family and eventually raised over $1,300 to help pay for funeral expenses.

So, what were they thinking when Rowan’s mugshot turned up on TV earlier this month on charges of armed robbery and assault with intent to murder?

“I almost passed out,” said DiPonio, in an interview with the Associated Press. “It was literally that bad. My girlfriend looked at me and immediately just started crying. I was in disbelief. It took me literally an hour until I could actually focus and think again. It was just unbelievable.”

Rowan, his girlfriend, and another friend, Michael Bowman, have all been charged.

What a sick and twisted mind all three of these individuals have to not only attack someone like they did, but to scam these promoters and likely fighters out of money. This is a crazy, crazy world we live in.
