Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland are set to compete in June at UFC 161 for Barao’s interim UFC bantamweight title.
However, the bigger question concerns Dominick Cruz and when he will return to put his championship on the line.
Cruz has been on the sidelines for well over a year, undergoing a pair of knee operations. Both Barao and Wineland were asked about a possible future unification match during a recent press conference.
Barao’s thoughts on facing Cruz (through translator):
Currently, he is looking at this fight first and foremost. After that, yeah, definitely to Dominick. But for now, the focus is the next fight.
Wineland’s feelings on meeting up with “The Dominator:”
I’m not looking past Renan, but given that I beat him, it depends on Dominick. If he is not healthy enough to compete, he’s not healthy enough to compete. I wouldn’t want to lay inactive. Whatever the UFC decides (I’ll do).
So, there you have it. Which fight would you prefer to see, Barao-Cruz or Wineland-Cruz? I know my money is on a thrilling five-round Barao-Cruz contest.
