Gunnar Nelson Rehabbing From Torn MCL

Gunnar Nelson, who was expected to make his third Octagon appearance in May, underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ACL.

According to Nelson’s father and manager, Halli, the doctor said “surgery would be the best situation. We asked if we could maybe put that off until after the fight but he was like, ‘No way!'” Nelson told Fighters Only recently.

Nelson had the surgery and is hopeful for a return to training in May.

“Hopefully, he can fight again in the late summer, maybe around August,” the elder Nelson said. “He is still young, only 24, so the doctors say the knee should heal fine and be as good as it was before.”

Hailing from Iceland, Nelson is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is 11-0-1 in his MMA career. He submitted DaMarques Johnson in his debut last year inside the Octagon.
