UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will finally get his chance to silence Chael Sonnen Saturday night when the two collide at UFC 159.
For now, Jones plans to just allow Sonnen to continue to speak his mind, as he talked about the trash-talking ways of his challenger on UFC Tonight recently.
Chael’s doing what he does best: he’s promoting a fight and I’m going to let him do it. I realize through experience that talking trash does nothing for the fight.
Jones, though, didn’t let this opportunity slide by without taking a shot at Sonnen’s past.
People know that Chael Sonnen has done steroids throughout his whole career and that’s probably why his testosterone is low now. I don’t think that is the heart or the attitude of a champion, so that’s what I meant when I said he lacks champion’s soul.
As for any concerns with facing the former middleweight contender, “Bones” seems confident in his training and preparation, adding, “I’ve just familiarized myself with the whole thing and I’m really comfortable with what I’m getting ready to face. I wouldn’t say any of it really concerns me.”
Jones-Sonnen may not be the champion vs. No. 1 contender match we are used to, but it should provide some good drama in the lead-up and an interesting fight – at least until Jones finishes him.
